An introduction to Circus Starr

Circus Starr is a not-for-profit organisation that provides free, accessible circus shows for children and families who may otherwise miss out on live entertainment experiences. Their audiences include children with disabilities, families facing financial hardship, those affected by bereavement or domestic violence and children living with life-limiting conditions.

Circus Starr believes every child deserves the chance to experience joy, creativity and inclusion. Their relaxed performances are designed to remove barriers that many families face when attending mainstream events. Reduced sound levels, carefully considered lighting and British Sign Language interpretation help create an environment where children can dance, sing, shout out and fully enjoy the experience without judgement.

Their work is needed more than ever. Almost 1.5 million UK families cannot afford a single day out together, while 50% of families with disabled children say isolation and stigma impact their daily lives. Circus Starr helps change that by creating welcoming spaces where families can have fun together.

Every year, Circus Starr tours the UK delivering around 148 accessible circus shows featuring talented performers from across the world. Their mission is to bring joy, confidence and inclusion to children and families who need it most.

Their wonderful work includes:

2. Working with local businesses and supporters to fund performances
3. Providing free tickets through schools, hospitals, hospices and charities
4. Creating relaxed, inclusive shows where every child feels welcome
5. Reinvesting donations into making future shows even more accessible

Circus Starr’s initiatives include sensory stories to help families prepare for visits, touch tours for visually impaired guests, BSL interpreters at every performance and mobile Changing Places toilets to support visitors with complex needs.

Many families across the UK continue to face financial hardship, social isolation and limited access to inclusive activities. For children with disabilities or additional needs, attending public events can often feel overwhelming or inaccessible.

How to attend the shows right here in Yorkshire

Circus Starr have revealed their upcoming live shows in 2026, with several taking place right here in Yorkshire! The cast includes international circus artists and performers, with singing, dancing and meet and greets promised.

Shows in Yorkshire take place in Doncaster, Keighley, Huddersfield, Sheffield, Leeds, Hull, Bradford and Middlesbrough.
